Decluttering Your Home

Think back to when you first moved into your new home. It likely felt more spacious than it does today. Perhaps you’ve been there for a while , or added a few members to your family. Do you feel like you’re outgrowing your home? Maybe it is simply time to declutter.

Examine your living area. This is most likely the space you use most frequently, after all. Does your furniture and decor fit in the room? If not, it could be time to downsize some pieces, and get newer , smaller furniture. Do you have too many small items on your end tables or the floor? Consider getting rid of the tv stand, and mount the television on the wall. Freeing up floor space can make a world of difference. Building some shelves on the wall can have a similar effect.

Check the closets. Get rid of anything you haven’t worn in the past six months to a year, and anything that doesn’t fit. If you’ve collected items in your closet that you are saving to repair, but haven’t gotten around to it, make time to fix it, or clear it out.

The toy box is another area that can get cluttered incredibly fast. Do you have toys that no longer work? Maybe your children have simply outgrown them, or lost interest. If you have any of these items, either box them up for storage, donate them, or have a yard sale.

Speaking of yard sales, check your basement or garage. If you have items stored in these areas such as unused furniture, bicycles you never ride, or other miscellaneous gear, it could be a good idea to part ways with it. You can easily sell many of these items at a yard sale, and will be unlikely to miss them.

Lastly, the kitchen is a common area that collects clutter. Maybe you came across  several plastic bowls missing lids, or discovered mismatched dining items. Get rid of anything without a match, that you will be unlikely to use again. Did you upgrade your coffee maker or blender? Toss the old ones.

Following these easy steps will make a huge difference in the feel of your home. Decluttering on a regular basis will help reduce the chaos, and make your home appear larger and brighter. Determine what products you can use for better organization instead.
